Friends and Needles Quilt Guild will be hosting their annual Quilt Show "Not Just Your Grandmother's Quilts" at the Houlton Lodge of Elks during Houlton's Bicentennial Celebration on August 17th, 18th and 19th. This year’s event will feature hundreds of quilts and honor “all those grandmothers before us” who passed along their talents, methods and family heirlooms. Quilts displayed will demonstrate how far we’ve come with today’s technology of machine quilting, intricate patterns, and colorful thread and fabric choices. Houlton and its surrounding communities have a rich heritage to share and we are proud to showcase this artistic talent.

Friends and Needles Quilt Guild will also be displaying the Houlton Bicentennial Quilt which was our gift to the Houlton Historical Museum. This quilt features gardens, trees, mountains, blue skies, and animals that represent Aroostook County. The Museum will house the quilt in their archives for future generations to enjoy!

The quilt will be available for exhibit around the town during the Bicentennial Year. Contact Stephanie Pearce at 538-9775 to arrange to show it.

This summer the quilt won a 2nd place Red Ribbon at the State Quilt Show in Augusta.

The quilt show will continue on with our own traditions with the Mini-Quilt Silent Auction featuring table-runners, wall-hangings, tote bags and more and with Special Exhibits including a hand quilting demonstration and an opportunity for young attendants to try their hand at using a sewing machine. As an added benefit to the community, several quilt shop vendors will be open during the show to offer fabrics, machines, books and quilting notions.

Tickets will be on sale for our 2007 Raffle Quilt – Curved Log Cabin - designed by Kim Hazlett. Proceeds from this raffle support the Guild’s Linus Blanket Project and the annual scholarship awarded to a deserving senior at Houlton High School.
